Saturday March 1 2008On this Saturday morning feeling satisfied with all our activities in the past two week in Virginia, we were on our way to team-up with our bikes that were parked in Savannah, Georgia. We were satisfied because we planted 5 trees in the state of Virginia; Virginia Tech, TCC, ODU, VWC, and Norview Elementary School and had presentations about Iran at these fine insinuations as well as Norfolk’s House of Catholic Workers. We were fulfilled because we met many young and old concerned and caring people that were also interested in our goals and mission. The memory of these people and the events will be kept in our mind for ever.
The Bus we took left Norfolk, Virginia for Savannah, and it was a 14 hour ride and three changes along the way. Our bus was very old, uncomfortable and could not recline the seats, Nasim and I were in two separate seats at two different locations most of the way due to fullness of the bus. We were riding in the bus all night long uncomfortably and could not sleep. We arrived to Savannah 15 minutes earlier than scheduled and minutes after we reached the station, our beloved Ms. May arrived at the station and picked us up and took us to her home where our bikes were impatiently waiting for us. We reached Ms. May house and shortly after we slept in one of the rooms for a good 5 hours and then we started to really talk to Ms. May
During this trip we have come across some interesting people and as you will find out, this lady as is an amazing lady as well. Ms. May whom was introduced to us by our friend Shahram “Sam”, is an 85 years young lady that lives in a historical old house, which may be considered among the oldest houses of Savannah. From time to time she gets proposals and offers to turn her house into a museum to attract tourists. We were staying in this historical house, however a short time, but still interesting and amazing for us. Ms. May had lived in Iran some 30 years ago and as a result she had obtained many Iranian hand crafts and accessories that were used to decorate her house. It was interesting for us to see and old American house decorated with Old Iranian hand crafts, what a combination. Some of the items may have not had a great value individually or as a whole, but the age of them and story that is buried in those pieces and its usage makes them several times more interesting and more fascinating. As these objects get older, they continue to convey their story that may contain a message, to the future generations. Preservation of these household goods and conveying them to future generation is a culture that we noticed a lot along our journey.
During one of the days we stayed in Savannah, Ms. May gave us a tour of the city. The best part of our Savannah experience was this tour which was on foot. That is right we walked the whole day and were very tired at the end, but not Ms. 85 years young May. One of the biggest lessons we got from this young lady was having hope in life and enjoying the present. God bless her heart.
One of the places we visited during this tour was a Jewish Senegal. According to the tour guide at this Senegal, no Iranian had visited this center and she was very happy to see us there. She showed us the rooms and prayer sections completely wit their stories. At the end she gave us her best wishe
Thursday March 6 2008
Nice and sunny day in spite the weather
of previous day that we had thunder storms and heavy rains. It is time
to leave Savannah and get to St. Simons Island a 150 Km (92 miles) in
one day. It is the good bye time again. For the first time we saw a non
Iranian crying for us. While Ms. May was wiping her tears wished us a
safe trip with success. After that farewell, I and Nasim did not talk
with each other for a while. We had a strange feeling. We were in
silence and in our thoughts to relief ourselves of this feeling. In
this last 11 months, we have this experience and feelings at the time
of each departure and it seems the voyage has just begun; again.
I will continue to steer,
I will continue to sing,
I have to go far away, far
We departed at 7:00 AM and due to an excellent weather and having
shoulders on the side of the road, we gained an extra energy,
unfortunately this did not last long and with the warmer weather came a
lot of fighter mosquitoes. Within second after our stops they were
attacking us and we were all swelled up
Along our route we came across a couple of bikers (Jeff & Louis Davis) that were recently
retired and pedaling from Miami to Canada. They were exactly going the
opposite route. We chatted a little and then wish each other good luck

While
we were in Philadelphia, and it was shortly Christmas of 2007, we got
to know a Jewish lady, named Connie. We spent some time with her and
she showed us the city and through e-mail we stayed in touch with her.
Connie had family friend that lives in St. Simons Island and we were
recommended to go down and meet these fine friends. Based on this
introduction and invitation of Jack and Barbara, Connie’s friends we
had planned to visit St. Simons Island and plant a peace tree. The only
way I can describe this island is; it is section out of heaven.
Jack
and Barbara lived in a big boat and with it they traveled to many
countries in 2 years. By cruising the oceans and visiting different countries had
made them familiar with personalities and cultures of other nations. We
felt they understand us very well and in layman’s term; they “dig” us.
Barbara,
whom because of her job has given many presentations, helped us
rearrange our presentation and our slide show. First she viewed all of
our slides and videos, then with a new rearranged scenario and format
helped us create a new Slide Show She stayed late at night until
it was acceptable, and making sure that we do present Iran and Iranian
culture the best possible way. Frankly, the result was much better.
Our
next presentation was William Catholic Church. When we completed our
speech, slide show and the films, we felt the audience learned much
more about Iran, Tehran, our culture, History and our trip. Father
John Kennely and Bishop Kevin Boland introduced us during their prayers ceremony and
requested his people that were present vat that time to stay for our
presentation at the end of their regular program. He explained what our
program is going to be about. Our presentation was
repeated for the second group. At the end our banner was presented for
view and signatures. Father Kennely and Bishop Kevin Boland signed our
banner.
Before I forget, I must mention that the day before we
arrived in this beautiful island the local newspaper, The Brunswick
News had already reported about our visit. Later we learn that this
was due to efforts of Barbara. Also need to mention upon our arrival,
we received a complementary tour of the city which was very interesting
and we enjoyed it very much

On this day we were experiencing a windy and rainy day, however we were able to plant our 31 tree that was named “Kindness” at the campus of Coastal Georgia Community College. We owe this tree to Ms. Barbara since it became possible with her great efforts and love. Our ceremony as stated took place in one rainy day and Dr. Dorothy Lord, president of College; Mr. Bryan Thompson Mayor of Brunswick with their presence helped and supported us in this ceremony. We believe the rain was good beginning of life for our “Kindness” tree.
We offer this Kindness tree to all Southern people of Georgia that with their Warm welcome and Southern hospitality in spite of heavy rain attended our ceremony. We also like to extend our gratitude to Mayor Bryan Thompson and President Dorothy Lord; this meant a lot to us.
At the end of the ceremony the mayor rushed to his car and surprised us by bringing and giving us the KEY to city of Brunswick, the Gateway to the Golden Isles. Mayor Thompson wished us the best, safe journey and the better relationship between Iran and America, he continued stating; with this key to you my friends, all the doors of city of Brunswick is open to you guys. We want to have friendly relationship not only with you two, Nasim and Jafar, but with all of the Iranian people.
The kind words of Mayor Thompson are one of outcomes of our efforts that still is echoing in our ears. While enjoying these kind words, we offer them to you, our travel mates that have followed us up to now. I recommend learning more about this mayor since he is interesting in many ways and congratulate to people of Brunswick for their election

Georgia Sea Turtle Center was among some of places invited us to visit them. Ms. Maura Larson was one of the nurses that gave us a tour at no charge. Due to the proximity of this community to the coast, and continued buildings toward the ocean which is the habitat of many sea animals; some of the turtles come to the coastal area to lay eggs, however often times due to closeness of the road to the water ways; they get run over or hit by motorized vehicles such as cars or boats near the shore. This center among many more centers that we have seen earlier as well, hosts some of the very kind heated citizens that volunteer their time and money in order to help these precious animals. “Within the last 3 months alone, 350 turtles were hit by cars along the Jekyll Island road”, Ms. Maura stated. She was very happy that we visited this center as she knows we also want to convey the message of conservation of environment to all people

Once more we were grateful to Ms. Barbara. She had arranged a slide show at the main Library in Brunswick, Georgia. We must thank Ms. Carry Knapp for her hard work in order to advertise through out the city by means of advertising few days in the local newspaper and media as well as inviting the people she personally knew. We had substantial number of nice people gathering at this library wanting to learn about our experience through out our journey, memories, stories, also history and culture of Iran. We had an unusual spectator among audience, and that was Matthew a young 10-12 year old boy with lots of very interesting questions about our trip. He had some nice comments about World Peace and wishing a calm world. He created an additional excitement in us and gave us lots of positive energy. Sometimes we have to ask ourselves; is peace in the world achievable, is it feasible? Is there something that we don’t know and peace is bad? In the mean time we continue our mission. At the end of program, our travel mate, Matthew gave us all of his money that he was carrying in his pocket. The few coins that he donated to us made him our partner in this mission. He on behalf of the people at that meeting signed our banner. Matthew, we love you, we will be together always.
The librarian had remarkable knowledge of Iran and very much interested in Iranian culture. In her video archives she kept few Iranian movies such as Children of sky, (colour) color of God, off side, etc. for public viewing

Today is our last day staying at this beautiful town of St. Simons Island and one memorable day. We toured the rivers of St. Simons in a kayak.
It was first time trying a kayak, at first we had some fear and stress associated to it. I suppose the fear was the spice of the experience, however with the help of our tour leader and coach (Dear Cindy and Charly) we had no mishaps.
Later we learned after the locals heard of our arrival news to this island; the company that owned the kayaks asked Ms. Barbara if they could give us this tour as a gift. With these vessel you can enjoy traveling the rivers and lakes, see the sea creatures, birds and plants without creating any kind of pollutions and stay in harmony with the nature.
Seeing a pair of Dolphins at the entrance of river into the ocean was our climax. They were within few feet (meter) of us.
One more time it is time to depart this part of the world, “The Gateway to the Golden Isles”, or “The Shrimp Capital of the World”. So long BWK with its entire good people
