We left Virginia Beach, Virginia on Saturday morning of February 2, 2008 for Merry Hill, North Carolina and continued on to other cities and towns of North and South Carolina and eventually arrived on Savannah, Georgia on February 14th. Within this period we were able to plant 4 trees in North and South Carolina and on the third week (February 15 through February 22) additional 4 trees after returning back to Virginia. These 4 trees were planted in Blacksburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Norfolk, of State of Virginia. I need to clarify after we reached Savannah, GA; we had to return to Virginia to attend the planned events for planting 4 trees. Arranging these types of functions takes time and we can not stand idle until the time comes, we move on with our bikes and where and when the locals tell us; come on down! We are ready! We take a bus and go back to the location. Of course we do not take our bikes with us. We try to find a safe place to park them and generally so far we have been able to find good bus services/routes for go backs. We also may use bus to go to cities that are hard to go by bike and are not on our intended route. Aside from tree planting we also attended several Church's that had regular and special ceremonies, an animal hospital/sanctuary, community homes, and Peace institutions. At these places we offer the local members few presentations of Iran's nature and history. We also attended 5 Universities and colleges in Virginia just before and after our departure from Virginia Beach. I must add the last three weeks have been eventful and these events will be described briefly later, in a chronological way
حدودا 3 هفته پیش شهر Virginia Beach را به سمت جنوب ترک کردیم. در این مدت بیش از 700 کیلومتر رکاب زده و به شهر Savannah از ایالت Georgia رسیدیم. در این مدت موفق به کاشت 5 درخت، بازدید از چند موسسه حمایت از حیوانات، شرکت در مراسم مختلف در کلیسا، برگزاری چندین جلسه معرفی ایران و گزارش تصویری از سفر در 2 دانشگاه، چندین کلیسا و موسسه فعال صلح شدیم.
با تلاشهای فراوان دوستان و اساتید ایرانی مقیم شهر Virginia Beach برنامه درخت کاری، پخش فیلم و معرفی ایران و گزارش سفر تنظیم شد و ما مجددا به این شهر بازگشتیم، البته و صد البته بدون دوچرخه و با اتوبوس.

The night before we realized father Cooper is the Priest at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. We stayed an extra day so we could attend the ceremonies on Sunday. Some of the kids gave us their painting especially made for us to show them to other kids of countries we will see. We accepted them gladly

برگزاری چندین برنامه مختلف، پخش فیلم و اسلاید شو در مورد ایران، سفر و اهداف سفر در کلیسا.
گویا در همین روز مهلت یکساله سایت به اتمام رسیده و متاسفانه چند روزی سایت RMC4paece.com دچار مشکل بود.

Continued on our trip on 17 South and spent the night at Ms. Bev which was introduced to us by Father Joe. She lives in the nice town called Newbern, NC. Tomorrow is the start of Christian fasting mount
In this ceremony, each person initially writes her/his wishes and bad previous deeds committed and won't like to be repeated on a piece of paper. All these writings will be glued to a paper butterfly and will be buried underground. At the end, the population of that town gathers in a restaurant and eats Pan Cakes and sausage. The fasting will start the following day
سه شنبه 16 بهمن (5 فوریه 2008) پیش روی به سمت جنوب و اقامت در خانه خانم Bev یکی از دوستان پدر جو در شهر بسیار زیبای Newbern و شرکت در مراسم آغاز ماه روزه مسیحی.
در این مراسم ابتدا هر شخصی بر روی تکه کاغذی آرزوها یا کارهای ناشایستی را که قبلا انجام می داده، و قصد دارد که از این پس انجام ندهد، را می نویسید. سپس تمامی تکه های کاغذ بر روی یک پروانه کاغذی چسبانده شده و نهایتها همراه با هم در چاله ای دفن می شوند. در انتهای شب تمامی اهالی شهر در یک رستوران جمع شده و پن کیک همراه با سیروپ (نوعی شیره) و سوسیس برای شام سفارش می دهند و از صبح روز بعد روزه می گیرند. قوانین روزه مسیحی با ما بسیار متفاوت است که مجالی برای نوشتن آنها نیست!!!!

on Route 17 south. Spent the night in Maysville, NC at Ms. Toni O'Neil.
She showed us a center for injured animals, "Possumwood Acres Wildlife
Sanctuary" is the name of it. We planted a tree in this area and the
name FRIEND was given to this tree due to creation of International
friendship
Ms.
Toni Has an extraordinary amount of love for these animals and tries
hard to save and return these animals to as good condition as possible.
Unfortunately some of these animals due to accidents with cars may have
lost part of their body and will be permanently handicapped. She

the end of the day we reached the coastal town of Topsail, NC and met
Ms. Lib that is like a super kind Angel of Peace. We got to know her
through F.O.R. institute and spent that night at her house. Due to our
long journey and continuous pedaling, we were exhausted and decided to
spend an extra night at her beach house and enjoy the sound of waves
and a soft music echoing in the house. Our website was disconnected
again due to some server difficulties and we also did not have access
to internet. No access was somehow good and relaxing, but we knew other
friends were following it up and we did not have to worry much
چهارشنبه 17 بهمن (6 فوریه 2008) بازهم رکاب زدن به سمت جنوب و رسیدن به شهر Maysville، آشنایی با خانم Toni O’neil و بازدید از محل مداوا و نگهداری حیوانات صدمه دیده ، (Passumwood Acres) و کاشت درخت در همین مکان. نام (Friends) برای این درخت انتخاب شد به افتخار شکل گیری یک دوستی بین المللی.
خانم Toni با عشق و علاقه ای باورنکردنی سعی در کمک به حیوانات آسیب دیده داشت و جهت بالا بردن فرهنگ و دانش عمومی اقدام به برگزاری کلاس و workshop های مختلف برای دانش آموزان می نمود. جای بسی تاسف بود که تمامی حیوانات معصومی که در این مرکز مداوا می شدند بر اثر تصادفات جاده ای (برخورد با ماشین ها) توانایی های خود و بخشهایی از بدنشان را از دست داده بودند.
"بعضی از این حیوانات هرگز نجات پیدا نمی کنند"
در انتهای روز به شهر ساحلی Topsail رسیدیم و با خانم Lib که نمونه یک فرشته مهربان و صلح جو بود، از طریق موسسه FOR آشنا شدیم و شب را در منزل ایشان اقامت داشتیم. به خاطر برگزاری برنامه های مختلف فرهنگی و همچنین رکاب زدن مداوم در جهت مخالف باد حسابی خسته بودیم و قرار شد یک روز دیگر را در این محل استراحت کنیم. در این مدت دسترسی به اینترنت نیز نداشتیم و هنوز سایت مشکل داشت. صدای امواج اقیانوس، آرامش و موسیقی دلنوازی را فضای خانه به وجود آورده بود.

14th century and the second named "Gratitude". Local newspapers
covered the event. It was a nice warm day and by walking on the Beach
we were able to get more relaxed and rest
پنج شنبه 18 بهمن (7 فوریه 2008)بعد از ظهر همراه با Lib و دوستانش در یکی از پارکهای شهر Topsail موفق به کاشت همزمان 2 درخت به نام های "حافظ - Hafez" و "سپاس - Gratitude" شدیم. خبر کاشت درخت توسط خبرنگار روزنامه های محلی پوشش داده شد. تقریبا روز گرم و خوبی را تجربه می کردیم و قدم زدن در ساحل اقیانوس کمی از خستگی هایمان را کم می کرد.

With Ms. Lib's guidance we went to visit the injured Turtles that were being kept at a center founded by private donations. We got to meet Ms. Jean Beasley, the manager. She explained how these Turtles get hit by the motor boats propeller. Sometimes the shell gets cut so deep, and at times hands or eyes get cut off. It is a sad situation and it takes a lot of effort to nurse these Turtles, hoping to recover. Cut in the shell takes three years to heal and requires small buckets to keep them in to minimize their motion
At the end of the day we reached Wilmington, NC and had a short stay at Clemmons residents, one of Lib's friends. It was interesting that until few days ago we only knew father Joe in North Carolina, and through him we got to know so many people that invited us to spend the night at their homes and we did not even use our tent for one night
جمعه 19 بهمن (8 فوریه 2008) همراه با Lib سری به محل نگهداری و مداوای لاک پشتهای بزرگ اقیانوس زدیم. در این مکان که با هزینه های شخصی و کمک های مردمی اداره می شود با خانم Jean Beasley مدیر مجموعه آشنا شدیم و ایشان برایمان از اهم فعالیتها و نحوه مداوا و کمک به لاک پشتها گفت. اکثر این موجودات نازنین به علت تصادف با قایقها مخصوصا قسمت پروانه موتور دچار شکستگی در لاک، سر و سایر نقاط شده بودند. شدت ضربات در بعضی مواقع به حدی زیاد بود که لاک بسیار بزرگ و محکم از چند ناحیه شکسته شده و در یک مورد کاملا از هم باز شد بود و به گفته خانم Jean مدت 3 سال مداوا به طول می انجامد و حیوان بیچاره می بایست در یک سطل کوچک نگهداری شوند تا نتواند بیش از حد حرکت کند. فطع دست و کور شدن نیز سایر جراحات وارده به لاک پشتها به علت تصادف با قایق های موتوری بود.
در انتهای روز به شهر بزرگ Wilmington رسیدیم و اقامتی کوتاه در منزل خانواده Clemmons، یکی از دوستان Lib داشتیم. جالب است تا چند روز پیش فقط یک نفر (پدر جو) را در ایالت North Carolina می شناختیم اما از آن پس حتی یک شب را هم چادر نزدیم و هر روز در خانه دوستان آمریکایی بودیم.

Late morning, before noon we were able to plant our 25 tree at Wilmington's Episcopal (servant) Church. Among the people attended were some of the locals, Ms. Lib, and Clemmons family. Before planting the tree, people made a circle around the tree and prayed for Peace and nature's Health. Mr. Riley Walker one of the professors at University of North Carolina at Wilmington, UNCW, coordinated this event.
Soon after the ceremonies we hopped on our bike and headed toward Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, one of the tourist beaches with many Hotels, Gulf Course, and other tourist attractions. When we reached Myrtle Beach, we went to a church to get permission and camp in their yard. Since the father of the church was not there his assistance was not able to give us permission to stay. Since it was getting dark and soon we had to find a place for tent, we ask several home owners for permission to camp and finally found one that did say yes, YES no problem. ALRIGHT
Happily we erected our tent and since it was late we were tired and fell asleep. Couple of hours later we felt someone is calling us and with flashlight trying to get our attention. Noticed the light from the cars projector is also on us and we were asked to give them our Identifications, which was basically our Iranian passport. It took me minute or two to totally wake up and find out what was going on. After the police had checked our passport and found we are "WANTED"... by no one, told us the other neighbor complained, apparently someone recently broke his windows and he was concern and did not feel comfortable with us being there. In fact the guy did not completely park his car until we moved further down by polices recommendation. Even then he could still see us and he would walk all the way around his house the much longer way in order to get into his house and see us lesser or possibly thinking we can not see him. We learned that he taught we were homeless and may harm his house.
The Police man apologized for that order, however stated that I have informed that man that you guys are perfectly safe but he still does not feel comfortable, so we moved, gladly
شنبه 20 بهمن 09 فوریه 2008)قبل از ظهر همراه با جمعی از ساکنین شهر، Lib و خانواده Clemmons موفق به کاشت درخت بیست پنجم در حیاط یکی دیگر از کلیساهای Episcopal شدیم (کلیسای Servant). قبل از کاشت درخت همگی به صورت دایره ای ایستادند و برای برقراری صلح و سلامت طبیعت دعا کردند. هماهنگی های کاشت درخت توسط آقای Riley Walker از اساتید دانشگاه UNCW انجام شد.
در ادامه به شهر ساحلی Myrtle Beach از ایالت South Carolina که پر از مغازه های توریستی، زمینهای گلف و هتل بود، رسیدیم. اول به کلیسا رفتیم اما متاسفانه کشیش در کلیسا حضور نداشت و جانشین او هم اجازه نداشت به ما جا بدهد، البته حتی اجازه چادر زدن در حیاط کلیسا را هم نداشتیم. شهر بزرگ بود، هوا تاریک و مجبور بودیم سریعا چادر بزنیم. به چند خانه مراجعه کردیم اما اجازه ندادند در حیاط چادر بزنیم تا اینکه نهایتا مکانی را پیدا کردیم و صاحبخانه نیز مشکلی با چادر ما نداشت.
چشمتان روز بد نبیند!!!!
تازه خوابمان برده بود که ناگهان با صدایی بیدار شدیم، نور چراغی هم مستقیما به طرف چادر نگه داشته بود. بله، پلیس از ما می خواست که همراه با مدارکمان خارج شویم. چند لحظه اول حسابی گیج شده بودیم و کلی هم ترسیدیم تا به خودمان آمدیم و توضیح دادیم که در حال دوچرخه سواری هستیم. بعد از چک کردن پاسپورتها با مرکز و دیدن چرخها آقای پلیس مهربانتر شد و وقتی با صاحبخانه در مورد ما صحبت کرد و متوجه شد که ما با اجازه او چادر زده ایم باز هم مهربانتر شد. گویا همسایه کناری با پلیس تماس گرفته و از اقامت ما در این مکان شکایت کرده. خلاصه کنم، مجبور شدیم به خاطر آقای همسایه، نصف شب، چادر و همه وسایل را به آنطرف خانه منتقل کنیم. در انتها آقای پلیس از ما کلی عذر خواهی کرد و می گفت : " می دانم کار بسیار سختیه! اما من هر چه به آقای همسایه می گویم که شما مشکلی ندارید، قبول نمی کند!"

Due to lack of sleep, we started our day with a bad spirit. On top of that we were having a windy night and the wind was 35 Km per hour OPPOSING us. How tiresome it was. Luckily we found a nice campground at town called Awendaw , SC near Charleston . We rested well that night as you may imagine
یک شنبه 21 بهمن(10 فوریه 2008)به علت خستگی و عدم خواب خوب در شب قبل، روز را با روحیه خوبی شروع نکردیم، باد مخالف ( 35 کیلومتر در ساعت) هم شده بود بلای جانمان. شب را در یک کمپینگ بسیار زیبا قیل از شهر Awendaw استراحت کردیم.

This day we were planning to take it easy and pedal about 50-60 Km (35 Miles), but the wind was from behind and was helping us a great deal. At times we were moving at 36 Km per hour (24 MPH) about twice our average speed. We did not want to miss the opportunity. We accomplished very well that day and we spent the night at a semi commercial campground next to Karen and Lucy, two boaters we met at that campground. These two boaters had decided to camp there and use the nearby lakes and rivers to float their boat. We spend good time with them talking about Iran . They showed interest in visiting Iran . The campground owner had set a price of US $18.00 per night; we were able to negotiate it down to my available pocket change which was about $5.00. Our new friends also help me negotiate that price. EXCELLENT
دو شنبه 22 بهمن (11 فوریه 2008)امروز قصد داشتیم کمتر رکاب بزنیم شاید در حدود 50-60 کیلومتر اما وزش باد شمال به جنوب بسیار کمکمان کرد و گاها سرعتمان به بیش از 36 کیلومتر در ساعت می رسید (بیش از دو برابر سرعت معمولمان). موقعیت خوبی بود و نمی بایست از دست می دادیم. شب را در محلی کوچک که برای توریستها در نظر گرفته شده بود چادر زدیم و با 2 خانم آمریکایی(Karen , Lucy) که برای قایق سواری در دریاچه ها و رودخانه ها در کنارمان چادر زده بودند آشنا شدیم و با آنها در مورد ایران کلی صحبت کردیم و بسیار مشتاق بودند که سفری به ایران داشته باشند. از صاحب کمپیکگ هم کلی تخفیف گرفتیم، به جای 18 دلار 7 دلار پرداخت کردیم، البته دوستان جدید هم برای چانه زدن کلی کمکمان کردند.

Today the wind was blowing hard against us, however before dark we had to make it to Savannah , Georgia . The road was full of big and long trucks carrying timber for lumber mills. Toward the end of the day as the sun was going down, we reached Savannah and we had to cross a very tall bridge that bikers were not permitted to be on it. After checking our paper map realized we should have taken another road that was 40 to 50 Km earlier and that would have bypassed the bridge. We called the emergency phone number, 911 and talked to the police, after they made sure there was no emergency and we were all OK, then they guided us to go to a nearby hotel under the bridge and use the ferry that the hotel has access to. We did so; however it was not as easy as we were told. We were then able to go toward Ms. Mahoney that is 84 years old but has more energy than some 54 year old people, a very kind and a wise lady. Upon our arival, we noticed a loud thunder, and shortly after a down pour of rain. WHAT A GOOD TIMING. someone was looking after us. We spent the night at her house. Ms Mahoney use to live in Virginia Beach with her late husband and one of Virginia Beach friend knew her. In a short time we spent with her she fed us very well and took a good care of us. سه شنبه 23 بهمن (12 فوریه 2008) امروز ورزش باد مخالف بود اما می بایست خودمان را به شهر Savannah از استان Georgia می رسیدیم. جاده شلوغ بود و پر از ماشینهای بزرگ و کامیون که اکثر تنه های بزرگ درخت حمل می کردند. در انتهای روز در حالیکه هوا کم کم تاریک می شد به پل بزرگی رسیدیم که تردد دوچرخه و موتور سوار از آن ممنوع بود. وقتی نقشه را بررسی کردیم متوجه شدیم می بایست 40-50 کیلومتر قبل وارد جاده دیگر می شدیم. با شماره 911 (پلیس) تماس گرفتیم و از آنها تقاضای کمک کردیم. بعد از اینکه مطمئن شدند که اتفاقی برایمان نیافتاده است بعد از چند لحظه راهنماییمان کردند که در همان نزدیکی هتلی وجود دارد که توسط قایقی کوچک مسافرها را از رودخانه رد می کند. پس از رد شدن از روخانه (با کلی دردسر) به منزل خانمی 84 ساله رسیدیم.

Iranian American Student Association of Virginia Tech also known as Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU) had arranged a Peace Tree planting for Saturday the 16th of February, so we had to get up there and get ourselves ready for presentation. With help of Ms. Mahoney we took a bus at mid morning and had a 14-15 hour bus ride through the mountains. It was a nice ride and gave us a chance to talk to each other and reconcile with ourselves and each other
چهارشنبه 24 بهمن(13 فوریه 2008) با هماهنگی های انجمن ایرانیان - دانشجویان ایرانی دانشگاه Virginia Tech قرار بود در روز 27 بهمن در محوطه دانشگاه درختی بکاریم و گزارشی در مورد سفر برای دانشجویان ارائه کنیم. می بایست خود را سریعا به شهر Blacksburg از ایالت Virginia می رساندیم. این مسیر تقریبا طولانی را به مدت 14 ساعت با اتوبوس طی کردیم.

With the help of some of the Iranian and American professors as well as students, in memory of the 32 students that were killed due to shootings of one student on April 16 2007 , and hope for better days at this University, this tree was named, "Arezoo", which translates into "WISH" in Farsi.
To Ms. Parisa Ahmadi, the president of the Student Association and Sherin Babaee, her assistance that coordinated events at VA TECH, we like to extend our gratitude, and other students and professors that helped us planting our Peace Tree and attended the presentation.
At 4 PM we presented slide show and a movie about Iran's nature. With help of Mr. Hosseini we left Blacksburg for Virginia Beach , VA at that Saturday night and minutes after midnight we arrived to Virginia Beach . Thanks Alireza
شنبه 27 بهمن (16 فوریه 2008) ساعت 2 بعد از ظهر با همکاری جمعی از دانشجویان و اساتید ایرانی و آمریکایی درخت بیست و هفتم در محوطه دانشگاه Virginia Tech به یاد و خاطره 32 دانشجوی کشته شده در فاجعه تیراندازی 16 آوریل 2007 سال گذشته کاشته شد و با امید به روزهای خوش آینده نام "آرزو - Wish" برای درخت انتخاب گردید.
خانم پریسا احمدی (مسئول انجمن دانشجویان ایرانی دانشگاه ویرجینیا تک) و خانم شیرین بابایی (معاون خانم احمدی) هماهنگی های لازم جهت اجرای مراسم را انجام داده بودند که جا دارد از این دو دوست عزیز کمال تشکر را داشته باشیم.
ساعت 4 بعد از ظهر اسلاید شو، گزارش برنامه سفر و فیلم معرفی ایران برای دانشجویان پخش گردید و سپس همراه با آقای علیرضاحسینی(یکی از اساتید دانشگاه ODU) به سمت شهر Virginia Beach راهی شدیم.
سعی کردیم به صورت خلاصه بخش کوچکی از اتفاقات را تعریف کنیم و امیدواریم بتوانیم جزئیات را در کتاب سفرنامه چاپ نماییم.
